Position Title: Tooling Engineer Position Summary: Design and modify manufacturing tooling and equipment including fixtures, gages, carbide draw dies, roll tooling and hand tools. Conceptualize layout, structurally analyze, and integrate mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems to produce efficient solutions. Evaluate metal forming process needs, develop design solutions and conduct production proofing. Maintain effective interface with production employees, production supervisors, product engineers, quality engineers, management, vendors and customers.Position Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Design, develop and modify manufacturing tooling and equipment including fixtures, gages, carbide draw dies, roll tooling and hand tools.2. Conceptualize layout, structurally analyze, and integrate mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems to product efficient solutions. 3. Evaluate metal forming process needs, develop design solutions and conduct production proofing. 4. Maintain effective interface with production employees, production supervisors, product engineers, quality engineers, management, vendors and customers. 5. Provide expert technical assistance and on-the-job training to internal and external tool designers and machinists. 6. Assist Product Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers to design, install and launch robust processes. 7. Identify and order tooling and equipment necessary to support manufacturing operations. Recommend new equipment when justified by quality and/or cost benefits. Seek optimum balance between the value of the tooling inventory and development cycle time. 8. Perform other related duties as assigned. Position Requirements Education: A four-year college degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.Experience: 5 or more years experience in equipment, tooling and machine design and implementation preferably in the metals fabrication industry. Knowledge: Knowledge of machine shop practices. Knowledge of the various materials used at Veridiam. Knowledge personal computers and various software applications. Skills: Verbal, written and listening communication skills. Problem solving skills. Project management skills. Mechanical skills. Interpersonal skills. CAD design skills. Abilities: Organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions. Operate a computer workstation and related hardware and software. Operate standard office equipment. Work with confidential data. Work under minimal supervision. Work under frequently changing priorities and deadlines. Work in a manufacturing environment. Travel throughout the plant, and capable of reaching around and over equipment to perform job responsibilities. Reach around and over equipment to perform job responsibilities. Lift and carry tools, equipment and materials weighing up to 50 lbs. See adequately to type, write, read and proof various documents. Feel, hear, and see detail features and characteristics for inspection and procedure development. Maintain concentration for entire shift in order to complete job duties. Read, write, hear, understand and speak English fluently. Read and comprehend complex engineering documents. Maintain hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate tools and equipment.
